Tree Officer - Local Authority? Tree surveying.

Recommended Posts

Hey.

I've just joined this forum - reading through other posts - you seem very helpful!

I've started dealing with applications for protected trees.. (Conservation areas and TPO's) We have an arboriculture who I consult on some applications.

Can anyone recommend a tree surveying course - to help me identify, diagnose tree problems etc..

I've stumbled across a couple:

Introduction to Arboriculture - Learning Curve

HCC Certificate in Arboriculture from The Horticultural Correspondence College Ltd : Arboriculture

Arboriculture For Beginners - Courses Direct

Thanks 'Terds' which I've just read means - Tree Nerds lol

Maybe not, Hopefully he's not another Planning Monkey like the ones i have to deal with no Quals but think they no everything about Tree Surgery Etc,

Welcome to the fourm anyway!

I think thats a little out of order because how do you know they dont have qualifications in planning and development? Im making assumptions from the user name but think he might be a she? Planning is a vast area and not only involving trees, have you seen how small trees are within the town and country planning act?? I deal with a lot of non arb qualified planners in local authority work, occasionally you get a query but as they learn the job they get a lot better.

Its like starting at anything you learn through mistakes.

Personally I prefer planners who no nothing about trees and admit it

At least you can point them in the right direction.

It's the no it all lot and ones that bow to the ill informed consulted that cost me time and money

Fair play to her for getting involved with the purges in local government planners may decide to do the tree assessment themselves cut out tree officers hold on to their jobs

Shoot straight stay alive

Jheezz! How rude! Yes I do have a planning background. If I was claiming to know everything about trees - do you think I would be here?! I have a keen interest and would enjoy volunteering as a Tree Warden outside of my working life.

Thanks to those that have actually taken the time to help answer my question and not feel the need to judge me because I asked for advice.
