Colour of elm boards

Can anyone tell me- how much does elm timber vary in colour , I recently bought some wide boards with lovely markings , swirls etc but very pale . Any help gratefully received

from almost white to almost red and everything inbetween, depends on soil, elements in ground, what its picked up in the water etc,

This is a slab of Elm I have had drying...whites and yellows..... (very heavy)

I have a table in kitchen made from Elm we cut 12-14 years ago, (9 x 4 ft) and it is a beautiful colour, sort of between Oak and pine, lots of nice markings etc, and we kept the edges natural (wavy), I oil it sometimes with whatever I have around!

Had some Burrell kindly donated and it has gone from a deep orangy red like red cedar to a much lighter sandy orange now it has dried out.

No timber that I have ever cut varies in colour as much as Elm. Avoid anything too dead as the colour just goes to grey.
