Hilux Fuel filter problem

About a month ago my fuel filter light came on and stayed on. In the manual it said contact your dealer due to there being a fault in the fuel system. when I took it in, they look at it and said I would need a new fuel filter. But its not a standard filter. I would need a new modified filter otherwise it would happen again! I asked if this would be done under warranty she said no

Now my question is as there is a fault with the filter surely it must be covered as its a modified filter, or am I well off and should just pay up :confused1:

Its a 2013 toyota Hilux 3ltr and has covered 14k miles

many thanks

Ed

A new vehicle should not have a fault with the fuel system that is not covered by warranty. This is assuming that it is an actual fault, i.e 'faulty parts or workmanship'

If the fault is down to fuel contamination then it is only fair that you pay up.

But by them saying it needs a modification is basically saying that the original filter is not fit for purpose. This being the case I would press for full warranty.

Sale of goods act . The vehicle should be fit for purpose . A 2013 hilux should not have problems this early in its life . If it has then you have a claim not to mention compensation / down time .

I still have a lot of confidence in the Toyota product but less so in some of the dealers. They have a 1990 ford dealership feel about them. I think the dealerships change brand so often they keep their old bad habits. If I was buying a new vehicle I would get it serviced at a main dealer and expect a bumper to bumper warranty for 3 years. I tried running one new navarra in 2002 but went back to several old trucks for me it has been alot less stressfull. In those days it was 6000 mile services and dealer out of town the truck was permanently in the garage and we had one eye on the mileometer and one ear listening for the next noise.

I love the Hilux it's a great truck for what I need it for but I've lost confidence in my dealer in King's Lynn as I've had problems with them already I may take it to another dealer next time. Even after the small problems I've had I don't think I would go back to older trucks.

I dont blame you for staying new. I have never had a new Toyota which may be an option for us. I did try 6 different Nissan dealers in 2 years and all hopeless. Hopefully you will have better luck with Toyota

Eddie,

Get used to the filter light coming on, mine does it at 9 - 10,000 miles like clockwork has done from new ( 3 years ) 60,000 miles always serviced roughly every 10,000 with new filters ( toyota ) but light still comes on. I have tried the drain plug on the filter to see if there actually was any water build up. I think the sensor in them is just too sensitive. Recently did 3000 miles with the light on with no problems as it came on at 8,000 past last service.
