Moles are so territorial that when they do mate which is around this time of the year they only do so for 36 hrs then go there separate ways, moles are haemophiliac so they avoid confrontation, when the young are 4 weeks old there booted out to find there own terrortory

A mole will rest for 4 hrs then work for 4 hrs to clear there tunnel system, when the weather is warm the worms tend to go deeper under ground so bigger mounds of soil can be expected when its wet the worms come to the surface so less mounds, a mole can have a terrortory upto 1000 square mtrs so the size of a football pitch. I can almost guarantee it's 1 mole but you can expect another to fill its terrortory within 6 weeks, there are things you can try to do to stop this happening, mole hills also regulate air pressure In the tunnels so when a predator tries to get in the mole senses the pressure change and will block the tunnel, so get your garden fork out and create as many air holes in the system this way the the new mole might not want to risk invasion and bugger off to your neighbours garden

A mole has organs called eymers organs they can also predict changes in the weather which will determine where the worms will be so the mole will clear the system ready to collect worms, if they have too many worms they will bite the heads of them and store them in chambers for later, a worm will be immobile but alive until it grows a new head

Another thing moles are blessed with a kinaesthetic sense, which Is basically like when you wake up in the night for a pee you know exactly where your going without having to turn the light on, so this sense enables the mole to notice subtle change on its system this is why most people fail when trying to catch moles, also moles can swim very well and they don't mind water so if anyone is thinking of putting a hose down a hole to get rid of a mole all your actually doing is creating a better environment for there food source, don't waste your money on mole repellent or sonic mole repellers trust me they don't work!
