He was good at his job.

My opinion of professional football, however, is slightly more negative.

Football used to be my life when i was a kid, but that was the early - mid nineties.

It's completely different now. I couldn't really care who takes over the job, i don't even care who's in charge at my favourite club :D (Celtic btw)

In his first year the club weren't phenomenal, the following year they finished second, the next mid table, the next year they started the season so poorly that it was deemed if he lost the forest fa cup game he would have been sacked.

A banner was displayed a old Trafford in 1988-89, 'three seasons and still no better, fergies out.' He ended up winning the fa cup that year and it saved his man u career further. From then on he was given money and support to develop the team he did. The main attribute to his success however was the time given to him by the club to build that success.

It would have been interesting to see if he could have managed other teams and been successful with minimal budgets as he was at man united with everything he had there, only then, IN MY OPINION, would i deem him the best manager in world football.

He no doubt has had a successful career in football at man united, but he was given the upmost support.

If he had have started his managerial career in today's game and had the same starts to the seasons in his first three/four seasons then he would not have lasted as he did.

Other clubs like Aberdeen for example.

Point being, he broke the old firm stranglehold at Aberdeen and won the Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid no less. So there's your answer about "if he managed a lesser team"

Aberdeen were not playing that bad prior to his appointment.

And in his managerial career starts at Aberdeen he had a couple dreadful starts to the season but luckily managed to hold on to his job.

In today's game he would have a new team every season.
