Just a quick point, we have these caterpillars here on the continent,(and lots of pine processionary nests) and you know what? the world keeps turning, oaks keep growing, no mass extinction, no streets full of people writhing in agony.

Just get on with it. It's no big deal.

Unfortunately our country is far more densely populated than the rest of Europe.

With oaks or people? either way what difference does that make?

Holland is more densely populated than the UK.

I think the population of the UK is being scared by the whole "Nasty foriegn invader" thing attacking our good English oaks.

I wonder what it would be like to be a toddler in a pram being taken for a pleasant walk in a nice tree covered urban park and then to be 'unlucky' enough to be in a spot where individual or perhaps a nest drops out of the tree and suddenly your nice pleasant day just became ...........not so nice

For a little bit of context, Richmond Park in south west london had somewhere in the region of 4000+ nests removed last year.

I was there on Tuesday and came across a couple of last years nests on the first two trees we looked at.

David, I think that's scaremongering, why is this not such a problem elsewhere these caterpillars live?

I also think the toddler/pram scenario is unworthy of you.

Imagine if someone posted a toddler/pram scenario about a limb from a tree. I think it would get pretty short shrift.

They're in the UK now. I suppose you could throw money at checking the trees in urban parks every year at huge expense. I guess in the end it'll be up to the taxpayer.

Do you live &/or work amongst any outbreaks?

With people.

Holland is taking steps to control it, just as we are
