sadface sadface, my gearbox is on its way out on my chipper, seems i let the oil run dry..... live and learn i guess....

anyway it looks like they are quite hard to get hold of and a bit pricey so has anyone got one on a shelf or an old 528 for breaking?

Jensen woodchippers utilise a gearbox to drive their infeed. One motor into the gearbox and a pair of shafts to drive the rollers. Some need spray grease daily, others had uj's that need a squirt, but all gearboxes need oil. Let that go through a damaged seal and they don't appreciate running dry! They are dear!

I'm under the impression that it cannot be repaired, possibly only the top cog?

Now that's just the wrong thing to say, it can be repaired its just a question of cost.

A gearbox is cogs and bearings, bearings are off the shelf and cogs can be sourced or made.

Often these gearboxes are a standard part from a transmission factory in India or Italy, mind I expect Jensen source theirs from Germany.

The crucial thing is what is the cost of the new part? If the gears haven't stared flaking off the teeth they may still be usable and only bearings and seals needed.

Ok, the bearings, I think, are ok. It's the cogs I'm worried about, getting a price from the dealer soon, if they have any but I'm thinking the easiest and cheapest fix would be a complete gearbox from a retired machine?
