So how do you advertise ?

Recently word of mouth and the web have been working for me, neither of which really cost anything.

 

I looked at a job on thursday, we had worked there 2 years ago, he still had the business card I gave him back then. If I see the client at the end of a job I always give them a few cards to pass on to friends and neighbours and keep for next time. I am now thinking that I might start sending them out with the invoices too.

 

pens,notepads,keyrings. they are all good. i have magnetic business cards for fridges and small carabiners/penknife keyrings. i meet folk who still use them after 5 years.

Someone from Tescos rung me the other day asking if I wanted to go on a poster which they have on the pillars as you enter the store, it would be £10 per week and there would be 16 local business's listed.

 

I was suspicous, why would a big concern like tescos be ringing round touting for a bit of extra cash.

 

I told him I wasn't interested as I was busy at the moment but just in case I told him to bear me in mind for the next time. I intend to go down and see if there is indeed a poster in the store.

i use fridge magnets, they are good for several reasons

 

1 stick to fridges and kids play with them

2 stick to cars.... great when i b+q carpark and someone is walking towards their car with trolley full of firewood, just walk past car and stick one to it

3 they stick to some letterboxes

4 stick to lamposts and you'd be supprised at how many people will see it and then take it home

We don't use yellow pages anymore, word of mouth, stickers on machines, and of course Arbtalk is still the best advertising I've done:001_smile:

Yep, word of mouth based on a sound reputation (95%). Leaflet drop in targeted areas in the spring sometimes. Not those pathetic A6 b&w leaflets that say "all aspects of... lopping etc" either - pass me the puke bag!
