Kevlar thread sounds good stuff Mayhem. What are the thermal insulation mats for?

Dean I like the look of your machine as the bed (not sure that's the right term) looks good for doing intricate stuff. Is that what made you go for it or was it recommended?

 

My father can knit and sew. Years ago it was a necessity and I think they are great skills to have. I would like to be able to sew heavy materials so that I could repair and make strong bags, sew webbing etc.
