Spotted this while out surveying in Stafford area.

 

Not poking fun at the farmers and people who do this because they know no better but this must have given the person holding the saw a fright when it went!!

Round here some farmers use the bashing branches repeatedly with a jcb bucket method to prune trees so alot look abit like that after.

May be a possibility, but wonder why the didn't tidy up the failed branch on the next tree?

The appearance of the cut didnt strike me as that having been the case to be honest, looked more like it had been cut back to clear way for the tractor to get by! but I could well be wrong!

 

but as i said either way i'm not poking fun but I wouldnt have wanted to be holding the saw when it split! good 12-14" dia at cut!

Some farmers round here consider undercuts to be a waste of fuel.
