Holm Oak Reduction

A crown reduction of 2 Holm Oaks a few weeks ago. Started working on these trees 7 years ago, at which time there was almost no internal growth to reduce to. We thinned these trees 3 times over 7 years to get a decent framework for the reduction.

 

This time around we reduced the trees by 3m in height and 2-3m from lateral branches along with removing whole stems which failed to develop new shoots from thinning works.

 

I estimate that we took 2000 to 2500kg of material from each tree.

 

Photos before, during and after and the timber removed. Chips stayed on site.

Do you envisage any further works on the trees in a specific time frame?

I expect they will need work again, I'd like to think not for a fair while yet. Lots of fungal activity, but I'm confident they will respond we'll.

. Theres a a couple species of ganoderma growing at the low pollard heads, can't remember which.

 

Trees are national trust. The guys that manage the tree on this site do a very good job. Very good bunch to work for. I have just been the contractor for this job
