Hi guys, quick question. Is having the SWL And the MBS clearly marked on the piece of equipment a legal requirement? And if not, why not? A leading arb supplier has told me its not legally required to stick it on, for some reason I don't think this is right.

All help greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I forgot to clarify that having the SWL is not a legal requirement on rigging kit. Hope that helps

Thanks Pete, why is that? Surely you'd want the information on the piece of equipment.

MBS should be on it, not sure its a legal requirement though so when I say "should" I mean in an ideal world, not "should" as in must have.

The SWL is open to your own opinion, it sould be 10%-20% of the MBS, depending on what your doing and what it is.

Knowing what the stuff can do is more important than having it written on there and in tree work there are no weights or forces written on any trees so its all a bit pointless IMO.

SWL = what doesn't make me sweat and that i got away with in the past.

MBS = no intention of finding out!

simple rule of thumb that applies to all my kit.

SWL is sometimes displayed on hardwear items, and certainly on machinery, but usually ropes etc. refer back to the manufacturers / suppliers info and the LOLER record of through examination.

I'm no LOLER expert, in fact no expert anywhere :confused1:, and hence I did find this link useful / interesting.

Thats about all you need to know!

We say it with either be alright, or it will probably be alright, either way is fine.

If it wont be alright then dont do it!
