Why do they bother making 50kmp boxes then? Or is it allowed to do that if it has sprung axles?

That and air brakes, plus air brakes on the trailer. However, even though it is then legal to do 50K, another law says that if the vehicle is registered as agricultural then it is restricted to 20MPH and a 24t train weight. Although Fastracs and Unimogs are classed as 'fast tractors' with other features such as ABS, and I believe 40MPH is legal then.

So technically most farmers are breaking the law with their 40 and 50KPH tractors. New Holland tractors and possibly others have a sticker in the cab saying 'To meet UK road regulations, do not drive faster than 30KPH'. My old agri quad had the same.

And most agricultural contractors are breaking the law by running tractors hauling a customers produce for hire or reward. Silage cart, spud harvest, bales, you name it- it's only legal to haul it on red if it's your own produce.

It's a giant tangled web of various legislation overriding itself in various ways. A right can of worms.

I think you will find that 40k is 25mph. my 985 barely does 17mph.

I think you will find my 785xl does 23mph thanks and the ford 7840 has a "40kph" box which it does at 2100rpm but at 2500rpm it does 27-28mph. All tractor manufacturers made models with different final drives from the factory.

Some of the 80's Same's and deutz's used to use aircooled engines and where propper bullet proof and most are 4wd. I've seen a few tidy examples for around the 3-5k mark.
