The Ibanez necks are 43mm on the nut, flatter and thinner than most so tend to be comfortable and fast.

Just got the S970, nice bit of kit.

Not sure if I am preaching to the converted but have found a tab site called Songsterr where you can listen to the tab as it plays, helps you with timing and knowing which part of the song you are playing.

Epiphone SG which I have had since the mid 90's, bit batter and dusty now, its been retired.

Fender Stat, never really wanted one until I saw it.  Was looking for a Gibson semi

Here is the latest "toy". Have to say I am enjoying it but not sure the neighbours concur! The neck is a work of art!

May I ask why you’ve left the strings long on the SG- I can’t even look at them!

 

nice strat BTW- it was a toss up for me between a strat and the ibanez I posted above- think the strat will be next- after the Gibson Les Paul junior I have my eye on!

I know it’s pretty unsightly.  It’s just something I used to do. I saw someone once rig a top E when it broke at the bridge by tying something at the end and re-stringing it.  You would think it would just snap when you try to straighten out the bit that was previously wound on the machine heads but it didn't.  Just thought it looked useful as I never had spare strings lying around when I was a student.  Don’t do it now but don’t use the SG much.  I’m about to get it set up for my 6 year old as he only has an acoustic so he can play with it until Xmas.

Cheers, nice Ibanez too, cool paint job.  I have my eye on a Gretsch semi acoustic with a bigsby tremolo next up or maybe a Gibson semi. Wouldn’t mind a 12 string acoustic also at some point. I have a soprano ukulele as well that I wouldn’t mind upgrading, i’ll Post a pick when I get a min.

Anyone else tweak their guitars a bit? I have found that a bit of work on the nut, bridge and truss rod can transform a guitar in terms of playability. Many guitars seem to come from the factory with nuts that are far too high, the neck a bit too concave and the bridge to high. Never easy for a manufacturer to know what strings a guitar may end up on a guitar but usually sort the nut, lower the bridge and then tweak the truss to get the guitar in to shape.

The Yamaha APX600 acoustic was good but is now sooooooo much better for a bit of work on it.

Yes . Can feel if a nut needs work instantly when fretting the first few frets . Seems too hard .  I like a bit of relief in the middle of the neck as that is the easiest part to play on . This means you can have low action up at the nut and low action down at the bridge . A good fret leveling is the start point though .

If you really want to get the best get it put on a " Plek  machiene .

Never taken frets down, a bit specialist for me but the rest has definitely made my guitars a fair bit better to play. Got a hollow body Ibanez on its way, another to play around with!
