The tory government put a tax of £15 a tonne on fc timber comming out the forest when they came to power. Because they did it private estates simply increased their price by £15 thats why cord wood costs so much and the men harvesting still earn very little.

HI STEVE your right there the chaps that cut it earn little in terms of cost of kit they use thanks jon :thumbup:

As a percentage of value that must be about 25%

Thats one hell of a tax on cordwood for fuel.
