We got some tanalised timber the other day from a well known local agricultural merchants. Some of the 4x2 rail we cut up and the treating was only about 3 mm down at the most. We treated the cut ends. But even the half round rail was only about 5mm down on the rounded edge.

Not excusing poor treatment, but the rails will only generally be UC3 treated i.e. not intended for ground contact. Hence the reason why they are even less well treated than posts..:001_rolleyes:

can any one explain what HD4 is have some dragons teeth to fit and they are HD4 treated and garentee for 15 years. have to say some of the tanilised muck coming out is not worth it. hence i go to a local timber mill and there products are all top notch. and match or price is better than the big boys.
