Tuning saws

Hi all ive finally got round to getting a tachometer and as im so far away from my dealer im looking to tune them how they are ment to be, just wondered if anyone had any info on what rpms the idle and full revs is ment to be on a 200t and husky 372xpg and 3120xp. Thanks in advance

MS200T is 14,000max, 372XP is 13,500 max - be careful it may have a rev limiter so edge it up to 13,000 and see if the tach goes crazy and leave at a tad over 13K, not got the figs for the 3120 here where I am!

Differences of opinion on this subject .Depending on altitude and other factors factory specs may or may not apply .As a general rule no matter what model of saw it is the ear will suffice for the tachometer .If it has that slight 4 cycle sound it usually is pretty close .You can check how well the ear works by the color of the spark plug .

 

If the basic port scheme has been altered factory specs no longer are valid because you've changed the dynamics of the engine .Fact I know of not one engine builder who relies on a tachometer to tune a saw engine .This is not implying it's a bad test though .Some prefer the tachometer method and some don't .Simple as that .

I no what you mean upto now ive used my ear and havent had any worries but id be happier if they were set to factory settings

The thing is, factory settings only apply to an engine in perfect order with no wear at all.

As wear creeps in, such as piston and bore wear, or wear in the carb shafts, the carb will need adjusting to compensate and I have always favoured basic principles of ear, and plug colour
