It's only a short section but the biggest oak I've ever milled.... only done the first cut so far....

 

 

But should be fun when the big planks start to appear.

 

 

Using the 090 and Stihl 59" ES bar with Stihl ripping chain (which I Granberg modified myself).

 

 

And a romantic sunset shot at the end.

Newton was wrong. There is no such thing as gravity...

It weighs 4.5 tons - it would have to be a serious pallet!

 

 

I didn't find it too bad milling it like this - maybe if you had more than one to do standing them vertically would be the way to do it.

A fair old lump that. Roughly how long did the cut take?

 

Also interested in what sort of thickness you're planning to take boards off at?

Is it looking promising?

 

Have you tried milling vertically? I'd be worried the mill would 'fall away' from the guide rail, although I totally get the gravity thing
