Hi.

Does anybody know, what and where on the engine, charges the battery.

It had a new battery few months back but isnt charging :(

Cheers chris

The alternator is situated inside the flywheel. This generates the current which is fed to the battery via the rectifier/regulator which is situated externaly on the low left as viewed facing the flywheel.

These engines do have a habit of losing the alternator magnets which come unbonded from the inside of the flywheel.

I had a problem with a kohler engine a few years back, thought it wasn't charging the battery but if fact it had cooked it. Put a new one on and it done the same and it turned out to be the voltage regulator.

Mine has the same problem. Have changed rectifier/regulater, still doing it. Battery/leads ok.

I just live with it and charge the battery about once a fortnight. Not really that much of a problem for me.

Sounds like a plan dave!

Just bugged me! Ive whipped the covers off. What am i looking for? Magnet on flywheel ok. Cant see anything else... hmmm
