Recommended books for tree disease/fungi

Hi all,

 

I'm wanting to improve my knowledge of tree diseases, particularly the different types of fungi/rot, as I would like to start thinking about doing a bit of surveying in the future. Can anybody recommend any good books on the subject?

the body language of trees, I love this book and anything by Mattheck:001_cool:, treepests and diseases, principles of tree hazard assesment and managment lonsdales and brilliant, still so bang on 14 years on:thumbup1:

SORRY, know this sounds like a sales pitch, and it is effectively, but the 'Fungi Guide' n 'Manual Wood Decay in Trees' are welll worth considering. T'be honest, it was only on purchasing the MWDiT book that I really began to understand the different types of rot and theri effect on wood...'thanks Mr Mattheck!'

Another vote for the two mentioed above. They don't go into superfluous levels of detail but provide the sturdiest of foundations for your impending cathedral of knowledge.

 

Later, you can move onto:

 

Fungal Strategies of Wood Decay in Trees by Francis W.M.R. Schwarze

Wood and Tree Fungi: Biology, Damage, Protection, and Use by Olaf Schmidt

 

and something like

 

The Encyclopedia of Fungi of Britain and Europe by Michael Jordan

 

for general fungi info.

going to start adding a few of the above Recomended books to my collection of Hort & Arb books!

 

although I will say, Gosh! Some arb books aren't cheap!!

Paul, any news on when the AA's P&D field guide is to be published?

 

Is it likely to have sections on both Massaria and Chalara in it ?

Anyone know where you can buy a copy of 'The Principles of Tree Hazard Assessment and Management'? Cheapest one on Amazon is £119! Can't be right surely?!
