Always wanted to do one of these,never got round to it,off outside now to knock one out & light it up!:biggrin:

Standing dead pine is best in my experience, use birch bark (natures fire lighter) to get it going with a few dry twigs. It can be a bit finicky to get a good fire going but once it takes they burn a treat.

I also find that if you make your vertical chainsaw cuts a bit wider by wiggling (technical term!) the bar/chain it helps you to pack more tinder and kindling in the gaps.
