I got rid of my caritools and got some wire gate DMM aero carabiners. Rated to 22kn so will take any saw, if desperate they can be quickly taken off and even used in a rescue situation. At £8 they are the same as a caritool. When not used they will sit against the harness and not catch on everything.

I've put a bentgate carabiner on the back of mine in the middle to hang the saw off for the same reason. A large caritool behind you can be a problem!

Caritools are to each side where I can see them!

Have a small caritool on the left which I have my pulley saver on while I'm going up, occasionally a polesaw, cable bracing gubbins or what have you. Doesn't get used much but still very useful. I wouldn't hang a saw on a caritool though, they're plastic, plastic is not tough. I have a chainsaw hook for that, never seen these in the UK but they're made by Komet...

Can you attach them to any harness ?

Paradoxically, the Petzl Caritool will not easily be mounted on the Petzl Sequoia harness. I have had to use a cable tie to make it sit properly. If anyone have found a good way, please post a picture.

Seems like a lot of effort for a time saving tool.

I know in the rare occasion it holds me back, but i worked for a while without one, and I know I'd get so fed up if I had to work without one again.

I think the principle is you only slide it into the gate if you're not using it, for instance if you were climbing a fuzzy tree and pruning with a silky.....

I must admit this isn't something I've done to mine but I keep it at the back of my mind for when I need it! :thumbup1:
