Personally because my professional opinion and credentials have been questioned privatley in PM's and publicly in this thread mate.

Not by me, in pm, or on this thread. Any time two trees weigh 30 tons, they are biiiiggggg!!

I just went out and performed the stick trick on my tallest douglas fir. When I moved in to my home in 1985, it was maybe 8-10" dbh, and 40 feet tall. It is now about 105'.....and it is small for conifers in my 'hood. (Washington State)

good work, buzz and crew...now everyone relax, eh?!

By the way, I'm soon purchasing a laser. That'll take the guesswork out of distance/height calc's.

How do you find the laser dean? I was chatting to a consultant friend the other day who was having trouble with spurious readings, I think if you accidentaly catch a twig or leaf from a lower limb it only measures that distance. His is a "true pulse" I think.

I got it for assessing whether the mewp would reach any given job etc . But for tree height measure, I stand underneath the tree and aim at a decent target, either branch or group of leaves and then guess the last few feet or so. It is cracking for felling into tight spaces.

Its a Leica disto lite 5 which I use for all sorts, used it to measure room volumes for radiators, measure woodland acreage, measuring floor joist lengths, etc it really does get used, not just another toy. I originally got it to find out whether the mewp had enough outreach to reach across a stream to point a gable end.
