Well I think you need to think about taking off the branches and lowering them.it would be a P.I.T.A too take off just to snatch the logs.it need stooge versatile enough to use in both applications but that's exactly why I wouldn't use it.the slack on that scares me.

I don't like rigging with slings really, but a few people I work for like it. I'd be happy to give it a go, looks safe enough to me. I think it's main purpose is a situation where the climber is carrying multiple slings and can be setting the next while the ground crew deal with the last bit, so it does make sense in a way

Which is fine but that way can be done with a secure crab on the end of the rope.i understand it's unlikely to unhook itself but still poses a greater risk than a crab IMO.

Sherrill recommend splicing the rope terminations. This will maintain rope strength instead of reducing it like a knot.

 

Then you larks foot it on the device and reduce the strength again, notwithstanding the knot onto the timber???
