Reckon you could write a Professorship on these!!! Too much information and I can find precious little of it!

Vohl Akrobat, Bruunett 678F etc etc

What other small thinnings forwarders are out there? How do they handle side slopes compared to a tractor and crane trailer?

:001_smile:

HI T C D stephen blair has one for sale mate better then a tractor with all this rain we had down here i went around fields last week it was a joke far to wet out there :thumbdown:jon

Has no one tried, or even accessed the practicalities, of modifying/converting a Haggulunds BV26, for this role.

There appear to be large nos available Ex various Armies from L Jackson, Bawtry.

Perhaps the BV26 is too low slung to cope with stumps, with vunerable exposed transmission forby?

Or do they lack manouverability/limited turning circle?

cheers

what about a valmet 820? at least you would get some parts backup and dealership support when it breaks down. The issue i see with the other two is if they breakdown you could be sat for a long time waiting for parts, some of which could be of limited availability for the Bruunett. I havent ever seen the Akrobat before but I can see that its the type of machine that if something goes wrong it will be expensive and long winded to get parts into the UK for them.

Im starting to realise running bigger mainstream kit, eg tractors, forwarders, etc, is far more cost effective than running smaller specialist kit as the parts are so much dearer and harder to get hold of.

There are loads of different options out there, loads of smaller thinning machines made for the nordic markets.

if you wanted something new:

Gremo Gremo Forwarder 1050F - GREMO AB

Vimek 606 TTex | Vimek

Novotny Forest machinery | Novotny Machinery Ltd. - skid steering - loaders - articulated - loaders - weldments

Or if you wanted something older there must be a few Norcar's still kicking around in the UK some where. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nybwAudUC_k]Norcar 490 Forwarder in mud - YouTube[/ame]

Or you could go half tractor half forwarder with one of the Kronos trailers [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjVyu64Yc4E]Kronos 140 4WDM - YouTube[/ame]

I haven't found that charlie , the most my machine has been laid up in bed sick feeling sorry for herself is four days that's with parts shipped from Sweden and fitted .... i find that 90% of parts for servicing and repair can be found locally for the alstor and its darn site cheaper than running a FULL SIZE MACHINE just the filter kit for a larger machine will cover my all my services and running repairs for the year not to mention tyres etc..... don't mean to go on but i have been contracting non stop for two years with this machine and its not let the side down yet and done thousands of tons... i'm not biased i'm practical i thought long and hard before i purchased my machine and have not regretted it once .

They are all 'nice', but they only do one thing, and they need alot of work to justify the expence. For small scale, and small diameter extraction, i think a 3-5 ton digger pulling a trailer is the way forward, AND they can do other things, AND they are much cheaper.

P.S. if i had the money i would go for the Vimek
