Chip not going as far as I feel it should

I bought a jo beau m500 a short while ago and it isn't throwing chip anywhere near as far as I feel it should, was just wondering what things affect chip throw. Would just like to add that the blades were sharpened before I got it so they have hardly done any work, wondered weather blade to anvil gap made a difference? Also if anyone has any videos of a jo beau m500/m400 so I can compare that would be great

The little ones dont throw chip like the big ones do, Only a few feet in some cases

Are you getting max throttle? Are your belts tight?

I believe I am, it had a full service before I got I so I assume everything is okay

What wood are you chipping? Conny chip doesn't generally go as far as other less green species

I bought a tp 150 and had similar problem, I tried lots of different things belts blades and little sweepers on edge of fly wheel (not sure if yours will have sweepers).

The clutch went on it and I replaced the clutch bearings also it was a different machine after.

Make sure all bearings are good as one of mine was so worn it was slowing down the flywheel and not able to throw chip out it was more a dribble!

Been chipping thorn and walnut. I shall hae a good go through it all this week an see what I can come up with, as mentioned before about the throttle, it did have a new throttle cable so I wonder if it maybe needs adjusting a little

Even if you have not done much with it, check the blades and anvil edges and the gap. Check the spout for a twig or chip lodged in a corner.

Sounds like a throttle problem.

Assume nothing! It may have had a service but they may have forgotten to adust the throttle mechanism.

 

I remember from my insurance days (boring....) something like 95% of fire and catastrophic failure claims for cars and plant were in the first week after a service!
