not always chainsaw, guy who does my hedgecutting has got rotary head on his big mcconnell and he can "lean" on timber upto 5"inch diameter and pulverise it to ground level. that works better on big timber than a flail or he has a 3ft sawblade for real big stuff. mind u a good mulcher will do the job too

We got a tree shear that fits on a loader,skidsteer that will take out hedges and material upto 10", also got rotation on it so highup tree branches can be cut .
