Thing is aren't you finding a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, I mean they shrink a bit and yet still produce a full crop, so why do it?

My old man used to cut his potatoes in half before planting.

You can be well read until your blue in the face but NOTHING will ever beat trial and error in the field:001_smile:

Very much pondering over spuds this year.

With the wet weather and all the spud crops around us failing I left it. Might have to chuck some in now the weather is on the up.

FYI, can't get hold of a sack of spuds for less than 14 quid. That's the big sacks not the silly ones from a supermarket.

We split a bag of seed spuds (£17.50!) between 3 of us: Mine still haven't sprit yet, one other have sprit and they are now in the ground and the other has them in the ground and showing (and is having to protect them from the frosts).

Just shows how it is not an exact science.

I had three of four giant tomato plants damp off as well (overwatering - my fault) so this year is looking good already.

How can I keep the potato-beetles away from my garden?? They are attacking not only my potatoes but my aubergines!! They're killing me (and my vegies)!!

Putting the runner beans out tomorrow and another bird box. Nice to have a day off mid week once in a while.

You should see your beans twice in May. Once when you plant them and then when they come up.
