the gearbox on the hedge trimmers wants a red fluid grease

the 'blades' use the stihl anti resin spray or wd40

the strimmer gear box. i use red fluid grease but my gear box makes some worrying sounds when cold. not sure if its too thick or i have an used and abused strimmer

Hedgecutter gearboxes need a multi purpose EP lithium grease.

Brushcutters have a higher loading and need a graphite grease. Stihl and oregon both market one in squeezy tubes.

Red fluid grease is actually not suitable for either application, its much too thin.

But as markie31 says, Stihl blade lube is good, but expensive. I use, and sell, one from Anglo American Oil, its cheaper and very good. WD40 is OK to spray on the blades after work to displace moisture and stop rusting, but is pretty useless as a lubricant.

No negatives at all Steve, any oil is better than no oil, and at least chain oil is cheap!

Its actually quite good as it stays in place longer, but some bio oils can go a bit sticky when stored. I used to spray a liquid grease on the ones I serviced, but stopped when a customer brought one back that he had not used for a year since service and the grease had dried out and gummed the blades solid! I had to wash them in petrol to free them up.

By 'cardon' coupling, I assume you mean 'universal joint' as found on a PTO shaft or prop shaft?

If so a universal lithium EP grease is usually sufficient and certainly loads better than vaseline.

Not quite. Yes there is a universal joint but there is also some sort of clutch to save the PTO if something jams. It is this clutch that supposedly needs vasaline.
