Ifor Williams over ride for brakes when reversing

You know where I'm at mendi.

Basically guys when I reverse in mud it pushes the hitch up applying the trailer brakes so no reverse.

The trailer is in fairly deep mud. The damper works fine and the brakes are spot on it's just the trailer brake is working when I don't want it to.

Sorry for any confusion.

I know the Health and Safety brigade will jump on me for this but when reversing the trailer long distances we put an adjustable spanner down the in the slot. We only do it on the tractor trailer if its unladen. Its an oldish Ifor Williams. We generally only do it if we are reversing it into the "barn" as there is a lip which the tyres wont go over if the brakes are stopping them. Our Wessex tipper doesnt have that problem but it does tend to lock up when laden...

with auto reverse brakes there is a spring which lets off the tension when reversing so brakes will disengage when you reverse. that is why they are called auto reverse brakes

How can I stop the brakes coming on when I am trying to reverse my Ifor Williams trailer? - New & Used Trailers - Horsebox, Livestock, Plant, Tippers, Car Transporters, Flatbed, Box Van, Spares

The most common remedy for this problem is to carry out the brake adjustment procedure as outlined in the IWT User's Handbook. This is something we recommend is done every 2 months/1000 miles in order to keep your trailer braking system in optimal working condition. If trying to reverse up steep inclines or very uneven ground, a manual reverse kit that overrides the trailer's auto-reverse may be available from your IWT distributor (dependant on the age of the trailer)
