Anyone like the new Stihl oil & petrol tank caps?

in the pole how can 18 people not know or not care????

surely if you use a saw you would have used both types and have a preference, to say you dont know or care is just BS to me.

The new type is quicker granted, (when new) after its worn in things go wrong.

The old type can be fiddly to undo, especially with gloves but only had one ever leak fuel and replaced the O ring and as good as new (on a saw I purchased in 1989) that is good going, on the same saw the oil filler cap split but dont know how as it wasnt used for a while and wondered if the plastic in contact with oil for so many years effected it? dont know on that & the first one I had to replace on any saw.

My Stihl is a 2004 and it has them, so id guess 2003/04. I havnt seen any saws older as this with them.

 

The original ones worked fine on my saw never letting me down. But the oil cap became brittle and fell to bits 2 or 3 years ago and the replacement one doesnt seem to fit quite so well. I still havnt had any issues though....

I only find it an issue on top handle saws, my 192t is a pig to get on, my mates 200t is the same. really have to press down on it to get it to "bite". Never had it on a ground saw.

Dont like Husky caps, PITA.

I press hard on my 200t out of habit, had a few fights prior, and I love husky caps, much easier, twist on, twist off, though the older ones were better (the ones with a socket slot, not screwdriver)

Borrowed a Stihl pole saw a couple of weeks ago with the new style caps. Not a fan at all, ended up spilling half a tank of fuel down me.

This subject really bugs me, ive used the new caps for nearly 6years now and had no problems with them at all, I think there great, no need for a combi spanner etc...

Why does it bug you Tom? you don't have a problem with them, good for you. Others do and its a pain for them. Read another thread

I never found a problem with the old style caps. I'm sure like many others, I keep a combi spanner in the fuel can, so it was always at hand to undo cap if needed. And as long as you're not unnecessarily brutal with it, your cap lasts.
