i wouldnt use a pulley if you use a rope based friction knot as the lack of friction does your elbows in!! i only use one for the spiderjack. rest of the time i use a multisaver.

If using a VT and reduced friction anchor is doing your elbows you probably need to examine your technique.

I use one every day, my left wrist has only got a couple of years worth of climb left in it...if I don't use one it HURTS!

OP, are you talking about climbing or lowering?

The climber use's a cambium or pulley saver, and then puts a rigging pulley on another high point.

Thats how its done.

i just found the lack of friction put more pressure on my right elbow in the split second before i pushed my prussik up with my left, leaving me with tennis elbow!! but maybe thats just me.

You could alter your system to stop this.

Either switch to a short closed hitch system (such as vt and hitch climber) where you tend slack after a few pulls, or rig a micro pulley to self tend the hitch, so all you have to do us pull down from below....

I set my vt up to self tend a couple of times, I can see the attraction!

I somehow managed that too with a distel with long tails, had to tie a stopper knot to stop the whole thing self tending past the spliced eye.
