Felling a cherry over two years???

Went to look at a job today. End of terrace house with a Cherry in the side/front garden. Surprise surprise the roots are lifting the paving stones and so the client wants the tree felling.

The tree is about 1.5 metres away from the side elevation of the house. Its about 30cm diameter at the base and between 5-6metres tall.

Knowing what (as we all do) Cherry roots are like, I think it's a safe bet to assume the roots are nearing the building if not already there!!

So the question is would you fell it in one foul swoop and risk heave or stage the felling over a couple of seasons??

My gut instinct is to stage the felling of it!

I could get some piccies if that would help.

I was told that if you think there is a possibility of heave then fell it and sort the problem out when its all settled.

 

Otherwise the ground will be moving up and down over the years as you reduce/prune it etc which can cause more probs and money.

any tree i have removed because it was causing damage, was done in a oner, then they sort out the problem. i have never heard of staged felling, but there is a lot i havent heard of:001_smile:
