shooting season

Recommended Posts

Have had two quacking days (yes, there was duck invovled) on a local shoot - got driven around, great food and hospitality and good company. Very good value and the guy who runs it is a diamond geezer - oh thats you Darren isn't it???:thumbup:

Two of the three shoots i beat and shoot have been cracking all season. The commercial shoot we have had two teams of lets just say interesting teams (Grouse syndicate teams and you will get the idea). The other farm shoot i beat on started well but soon fell apart when the sabs went through and soaked all the feeders in deisel and have been trashing covercrops. The birds just arent there anymore. We used to shoot 80 bird days easily. We are lucky if we shoot 30 now. It also doesnt help when the local traveller fraternity are poaching on the land too.

The syndicate at the commercial shoot have been shooting 250 + bags each day they have been shooting. They have shot their overage and then some.

I've done more stalking this year than driven birds however I have had some brilliant days on the ducks in the family woodland. Bag of 25 mallard from a flight between Christmas and new year from 3 guns. I also had a cracking time on a let day on a massive estate in the lakes where they put down 25,000 birds a year. We had an outside day following a royal shoot. This coupled with a couple of days given by friends or customers has made for a steady but high quality season.

Cutting my shooting down year on year, used to do 18-20 days a year.

This year so far I have done 5 days with a syndicate that I run here with another 3 to go, one here and two guest days, all running on consecutive days. Then I can get on with some trapping.
