I was wondering what other size saws people used. Did know sthil did a carving saw range so nice one. :thumbup1:

Or these

STIHL Products | STIHL | Stihl, Viking, chain saws, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, clearing saws, high-pressure cleaners, lawn mowers, trimmers

If the nosie is a problem try out an electric saw!

But the ms 201 seem to be quite good, though ive not managed to get hands on yet

i was watching the carving at the apf and a lot of the carvers were using small rear handle echos (i have a 26cc top handle echo and they were using the rear handle version, good little saw)

Martyn, if its like previous years I believe i'm right in saying that Echo sponsor the event and supply all the carvers with a saw, might be wrong though.

i use a Sthil 201 (back handle) with a 12" carving bar and a Ms 231 with a 16" normal bar as my two main carving saws and borrow a 441 when im doing bigger work. the 201 is a great carving saw but a bit pricey.

i am doing a big stump carving in a garden this week and have been ask by my local saw shop to try an Ms 150 pruning saw with at carving bar to see what its like as a detail saw. half the price of a 201 but i think its only going to be good for detailing.

the Ms 181 is a good carving saw although they get a bit heavy after a few hours. however the 181 does roll from side to side nicely when doing detail work with the tip. Mr dervishcarving will back me up on this as he has my old teaching saw.

and we cant forget the ms 192 if you can get hold of one.
