just bought a reel of ripping chain for the ms880 but it seems tight in the bar groves the chain is oregon 27R100R .404 .063"/1,6MM THE BAR I HAVE IS A 47"STIHL DUROMATC E ,30020008064 .063"/1,6MM,

Can you measure the drive tangs with a mic or vernier ? If they are 1,6mm or under then maybe your bar rails are minched .

As Stubby says.

Is it a brand new bar? If so, it's possible either the bar or the chain are out of spec.

If not, try taking the end drive link of the reel and running it round the bar in the groove. This will show up whether you have any pinch points or if the bar is uniformly tight. If it's pinch points you can tweak them open a little with a large flat-bladed screwdriver, unless they're on the hardened nose.

had the same problem,,,,same 47" BAR,,,WITH NORMAL chain,,works fine, but with ripping chain its a no go? so bar aint pinched!

Odd. I had a loop of Oregon ripping chain on my 47" bar, which didn't give me any problems. Luck of the draw on a particular batch of chain?

I've never had any oregon or stihl chain that is out of spec... that's not to say it can't happen though.

And other .404 chain is fitting fine in the bar?

As you have a reel of chain nip off a piece 3 or 4 drive links long and run it round the bar - is it tight all the way around or just in places? Try it on another .063 bar as well.

Is the bar new or secondhand? If secondhand has someone tried to tweak the rails together and overdone it slightly?
