Ancient techniques?

I am searching for info about felling techniques used by the celts, vikings, saxons, and romans.

As an avid fan of the past and now studying arb I would like to know how they did it.

Does anyone know of any websites, books or anything so I can do a bit of personal research.

i'm assuming they took one axe stone or whatever metal tehy had and chopped a lot until it fell down.

 

i'm asuming the earlier back you went the less fancy they got. maybe look at indigienous tribes in rain forests as well. i'd say they would be a good example. (just don't look at the tribes with petrol and chainsaws or any type of saws)

Apparently stone age man used to ring bark the biggest tree around so it would die then use the available light to farm in.

It's thought that this removed the largest of trees therefore weakening the species, so if they hadnt done it we would probably have larger specimens today.

Not on topic but thought it may be of some interest
