In the fourth pic from the bottom, can I ask why the the buttresses are cut flush to the trunk? Is it so that it just sits nice and flat on the wagon?

Yes so it sits better in the wagon. Also some people like to cut off the buttress roots prior to felling to make the cutting easier. Personally I remove them afterwards

It was 80ft, so yes pretty big.

 

The company provided plenty of men on the ground, along with the lorry/hi-ab, and 10" Timberwolf. By the time I had set the slings between each lift the ground was clear and ready for the next lump.....very efficient company
