Use isopropyl alcohol for dissolving sap on skin, clothing, rope and gear.

Put it in a small spray bottle and have that lying around in your car.

It's safe for both skin and climbing gear, and quite effective.

How much alcohol to water would be good to use safely?

Thanks for the input. actually looking forward to the next sap attack so I can try these options.

60%+ alcohol content would be my recommendation.

You might try an alcohol-based antiseptic gel as well. They come with a handy pump-bottle such as Spirigel Alcohol Hand Gel - Spirigel Complete

By the way - I do believe ethanol is as good as isopropyl alcohol. You might even use Vodka, Rum or Whiskey! Gives you an excuse to have a bottle lying around in your car and workshop

I have used a product here in the US called Purple Power I think? I know was in a purple spray bottle. Worked real good for cleaning weed eaters and lawn equipment. I use to clean spark arrestor screens, sprocket covers, bar and chain with good results. When sap is on it I use a wire brush for chains after soaking them with Purple Power. Next time I clean one of my saws I will take pics of before and after.

Beware of using any Alcohol/spirit/petrol or chemical products on your skin, it breals down the skins natural protection. Your can also get become allergic to it at any time with no prior warning.

Any knowledgeable Dr, particularly Oncologists or Haematologists will give you an instant NO, on any contact with the skin. Also the fumes can similarly cause CANCER. So please be aware.

A good friend of my fathers, an exceptionally talented mechanic, suddenly got extreme, Contact Dermatitus, his hands literally starting falling apart. Sadly he was affected so badly with very little medical help, not so much known about it back in the 90's, that he took his own life!

Use natural cleaners, nbarrier creams and gloves whereever possible.
