I can try and help steer it back :)

I have been climbing with some old but very experienced tree climbers between ages of 44 and 65! All fit and capable of competent tree work! But anyway the eldest was studying me and pointed out something to help me!

I was suffering from a right hand sore shoulder from throwing for changeovers. Which was making body thrusting up the climbing line with prussic pretty painful and slow.

What he got me to do was so simple and so obvious I could only laugh at myself for not thinking of it.

He got me to reverse my grip on the rope from thumbs upward to thumbs downward. So simple so effective. The power I was able to put out this way turned the painful climb into one of speediness and enjoyment :D

"This is how us elders can continue to do this work he winked" "Keep your movements smooth and slow"

I just bought a harness & having checked all the arbtalk history and recommendations I could find (compiled a shortlist) then went and bought a make and model that I had not previously considered !

The real test is trying plenty on and making sure it suits you.

I settled on a Skylotec Kolibri click having tried five.

Good luck

Just lately there seems to be a few threads started by beginners and climbers who are taking there climbing a step further, so thought it would be a great idea :blushing: to put together a thread dedicated to helping these lads out, not really got much planned as in picture/video format but was just going to leave it open to lads who want to ask questions regarding getting started or wanting move into different climbing styles, different gear and so on, my first thing is to try and get a few climbers on here to help out we're they can!

Good idea or not?

Thanks in advance

Adam

As someone very green to climbing that is a very useful and helpful suggestion. Cheers

HaHa here's a genuine beginners question - looking to get my first harness, can anyone recommend anything including rough prices. Would like to buy the right kit that's been put through its paces.

Many Thanks

I'm new to climbing and got myself a Tree Motion - really good but quite pricey.

Yes I have to agree, where different shapes and sizes and not everyone feels comfy in the same harness, the best advice has already been given, get yourself down to a dealers and try on a few, I climbed on a komet butterfly for years I liked it but getting to try a skylotec kolobri of a friend was a great opotunity as me and the harness bonded straight away,

What ever harness you choose to buy enjoy, but remember cheap is not always the answer neither is buying the most expensive, so make sure you covered most of them to be sure :thumbup1:
