From the description it sounds like the crank shaft thread has been stripped and a hole has been put in to the crank and tapped then a allen bolt put in its place but until I see a picture, can't be sure!

 

That's what I was trying to get at. Exactly that. But the nut thread just isn't there. Either it was cut off or broken and the end filed down, hole drilled and a thread tapped.

 

I will have to get a picture. It just caught me out when I took the pull starter assembly off expecting to see a nice 13mm nut and was greeted by a bolt head and washer.

 

Anyway the saw will soon be gone and I can forget about it. :001_cool:

 

But a picture is needed before that.

FWIW I have four illusitrated parts lists for the 020T including the rear handled 020 version and one for the 200T .None show a bolt in the flywheel portion or side of the crankshaft .

 

They do show a hex flange nut M8 by 1 which I might add is standard for several small sized Stihl saws .Part number 000-955-0802

 

It's only speculation on my part but could be entirely possible that the threaded stub end of the shaft was irrepairabley damaged in some way and the crankshaft end drilled taped for threads and a bolt installed in leau of a nut for repairs .Quite possibley an M6 Torx head which would be a T 27 size .Were it a standard M6 socket head it should be 5 mm Allen type.--See all this time you folks thought us Yanks just used 24" Cresent wrenchs and ball peen hammers ---

24" is a bit small isnt it ?

While on this subject of 200T's most of them died from a cooked top end .I have no idea how it is on the eastern side of the broad Atlantic but flea bay US you can often land the entire crankcase with a crankshaft often for 50 dollars US funds .

 

Fact I did just that to repair an 020T with a 200T crankcase .Looks kind of odd ,one screw cap and one flippy cap .
