LOVELY little Dolmar

First (of perhaps many?!) 5105s arrived today. Bit p.o'd that it came with a cat muffler but now not too worried (more on that later) as it probably does reduce the stink. First what I don't like - the width of the starter housing - stupid wide; can't see the need and spoils the look and lines of the saw. Came with dumbass safety chain; yet to get proper 21lpx on it. 16" b&c - suits its very well. Fuel tank is on the small side - less running time. Sprocket cover all plastic - hmmm.

 

Positives - bar mount and tensioner work beautifully. Nicely balanced, rubber grip handle nice. Starts easily.

 

Performance - very pokey out of the box; more top end power than lean-on torque but it pumps through pegs when snedding / de-limbing and remember it's running crap chain.

 

Then I took the spark arrester out - made an immediate difference and my colleagues and I all think the saw sounds nice - has a good strong raspy moto-x kind of sound.

 

Acceleration - my word does it go! Very very snappy and aggressive throttle response.

 

One more thing - best 50cc er I've used in softwood in terms of slickness when snedding - seems to lend itself to efficient and slick processing; almost as if the shape of the saw somehow looks out for the next branch! Just rolls around the branches in a smooth, relaxed manner.

I am after a Dolmar 6400 but not sure where to look.

I imagined the outer dog would spoil snedding but they didn't so they'll stay for now.
