In that case I'm surprised you didn't get a bill for damaging your employers kit.....

Your probably right , i don't have a problem with them doing that. My point was it put me off trying the Hitch climber but it now seems that you can without a splice and a short friction hitch.

Tie the bowline long and it won't interfere with the hitch too much, and larks foot the biner on to the bowline if possible to keep it aligned.

Still not as good as a spliced eye though.

I'll try the larks foot , thanks.:thumbup1:

I was going to try a piece of rubber to close the loop. The splice is king , no denying that , but i don't fancy buying my own ropes so the 'long' bowline it is.

Did you splice them yourself?

Yeah, i did.

Not sure I get your point Andy?

If he is in house he works for the company that owns the ropes, as the person in that organisation with responsibility for LOLER, his employer can question his decision, but recovering costs? They gave him the rsponsibility and he has decided that without a CE mark the splice cant be used.

Nail on the head.

How has this thread turned in a splice discussion. I was just exited to have used and liked the hitch climber :blushing:

If company policy is no non ce marked splices then making one is damaging the rope, especially as it will only be cut off come loler time. Anyways this is getting off the original point of the thread a bit.
