One of the lads that works for me uses a lockjack and a rope guide instead of standard prusiks, and he swears by it.

Go for a branch you know you can get your throwline over or even your mainline, if it happens to be lower down than you want then just get up there and get your next line in when you get there - sometimes you could spend all day trying to get a throwline over the branch you want.

 

Everyone is saying practice and it's true, also technique... I feed the throwline through the ring on my throwbag so it's back on itself and then let some line out, so you end up holing the throwline in both hands and the throwbag weights down the middle of the line, then you can use it as a kind of catapult from between your legs...

me and my fat pal looked at these at the apf, the only reason we stopped at the stand is because its where we were in the que for the coffee. it looked pretty cool, and my large pal made a couple of comments how this could encourage him to get his arse back up a tree, when we asked how much.

(and remember how miserable us scottish chaps are) the gentleman lowered his dickturpin mask put his sword away and told us 4kplus vat.

after ripping the shite out of him and encouraging most of our like minded buddys in coffee stand to aswell, we continued on our merry way.

@Alasdair>> a throwbag does help, but make sure you get one with a decent weight, like a kilo at least. i bought a light one (the supplier only had one weight the day i went in) and to be honest i find it a waste of money. consider the weight you're asking it to pull down over the branch and the resistance of the bark. just my finding/opinion.

actually if yer any good at sewing you could prob make your own (lead from fishing tackle supplier of stones from the beach?). as with a lot of specialised gear these things are not competetively priced.
