Broken 200T

Ive got an old 200T which doesnt run. I bought it 2nd hand and it ran OK for a while but then overheated big time (the bottom casing melted!). Since then I've put it in with 2 different sthil dealers for repair and although they've replaced the exhuast, casings and countless other parts it still doesnt run. I've probably spent the best part of £300 on it so I'm not spending any more, question is, should I sell it (being completely honest on condition!) or keep it for spares?

Yay a 200t. I've currently had three of those done. Got another to look into aswell.

So what is happening when you try and tune it??

Need a lot more info than what you are saying. Anything and everything is a good starting point. Oh and a location please.

There are loads on here who would be able to help but need the info. Did the dealers say they couldn't get it running?

What is it with MS200Ts - it isnt Alchemy, there are a few issues that come up regularly but once you have done a few................... Sounds like the dealer hasn't done his job properly!

£300 - that is over double my usual cost of a FULL in depth refurb excluding parts - and I would take back a saw that wasn't right and fix at my own cost as long as the issue was something I should have fixed first time.

It does happen but not often!

MS200Ts are like gold dust in whatever state they are in, I have seen a bucket of bits make £140 - mad!

You can keep it as spares but it may be a better idea to sell it as it is and then purchase the spares you actually need with the money as you may well be left with a saw stripped bare of all the common faulty parts and useless.

The failure sounds a bit strange, overheating is generally caused by a leaking exhaust or crap between the cylinder cooling fins - have seen both and are relatively easy to fix.

Choice is yours but give it a good clean if you sell it on ebay and take some decent pics for the listing!

There is suppossed to be a foil type of heat shield between the bottom of the cylinder and the thermal plastic bottom of the case .If that item is omited on a reassembley it stands a good chance of melting the plastic .
