bought one to replace a 260 that became unreliable after 5 years of reliable heavy use and regretted it.

Problems from day one.

replaced it with a 550xp that has after 6 months not had any issues other than loosing the odd exhaaust bolt for some reason.

I would not buy another

my friend has one and it is a massive bag of poo!!! we both came from 260's but i went to the dark side and got a husky 550xp. the 261 chain flies off all the time its heavy feels flimsy. in short.. find a 260 or buy a 550xp!

anyone that picks up my saw is impressed with it :) buy husqvarna now!!

I love mine. 16'' bar. its just so versatile, which is great for me as i can't afford to have the perfect saw for each task.. need a great all rounder and it hasn't let me down so far!

346xp rob.. see the light (ment darkside)

That must be either "user error", or the clutch bearing totally FUBAR'ed.

no we are both professionals. only happens when milling up or spear cutting- so we are infact not professionals.

but i do the same as him and i have had my saw for 6 moths and the chain has come off once to his 150+ times!!

he bought a new needle bearing for it the other day and the chain was off within half an hour.

i wont make excuses for it... just get a husky!!

that solved that one

I have only ever heard about the chain falling off if it was too loose, or if the oiler was defect, causing the chain to become very hot and expand. Check the oiler. This is most definitely NOT a Stihl MS 261 specific issue.
