Oh dear count to ten

During a refill I found my mind wandering and as I removed the no spill spout the chain oil spout poured an arc of oil across the saw and into the fuel tank:thumbdown:

At the time I wasn't certain any got in but after several attempts to start it I checked the carb and it was quite evident that it had sucked bar oil through:001_rolleyes:

I've flushed the tank, cleaned the carb and diaphrams etc. It will start when fuel is poured directly into carb but then dies.

I'll be changing the fuel filter but am I missing something? If I can get it running long enough it should clean it self shouldn't it??

Oil will be broken down by the petrol, so should easily be flushed through the carb (unlike water)

I don't really see why the saw is not running, over the last 20 years there have been occasions where oil was put into the fuel tanks of my saws, but it was just tipped out, tank flushed with a little fuel and then refilled, they always started and soon ran fine, if a little smokey for a while.

When the oil blocks the felt filter, the filter is effectively blocked and the petrol flow ceases, so does not easily dissolve the oil, a lot of swishing around can help, but best to change the filter, or take it out and blow it out backwards then wash in petrol or blast some carb cleaner through it if you have some.

Like Skyhuck, I have seen it, but much more often ( public!) and usually they start, smoke, and clear, without needing to go into the carb.

Of course, if you are using my favourite product, Aspen, then you have a little more of a problem, because it has no solvents and will take longer to dilute the oil.

One (tiny) reason NOT to use Aspen.

But I still would.

Thanks for all the great advice guys:thumbup:

In answer to the many questions,

Yes oil got in the carb

Fuel tank flushed

fuel filter, fuel line, carb, diaphrams/valves, mesh filter have been soaked in fuel and cc as well as flushed with cc

I must have got oil on the pull cord too as it is making an unusual noise, so I'll be taking a closer look today, it needs to be re tensioned any way.

Will report back,

Cheers,

Si

Was that the 066 or the 011:blushing::001_rolleyes:

The 010 Steve, I've had the carb apart and flushed everything but it will only run from the fuel poured direct into carb. The metering valve/diaphragm is not getting wet. It's like there's a blockage from the tank to the carb but all's been flushed out:confused1:
