Ok what waste fuel, of course you use it all:001_smile:

I dug out a petrol generator I had in the shed, it was filled full and oil changed before it want away and forgot about it, the intention at the time was to use it in a few days time but that never happened.

My heart was telling me to drain the petrol (4 stroke Kawasaki engine) and oil and check it over before refilling and starting.

But I thought with all this talk of modern petrol being so crap I wanted to see if it would at least start:blushing:

First turned on the petrol tape, within seconds it was piss**g out of the carb, and stinking just like old fuel does. So off with the bowl and a quick squirt of carb cleaner down the fuel intake to bowl was all it needed to free the sticking needle.

Back goes the bowl, on goes the tap and no leak:thumbup1:

on with the choke, a pull of the starter and it fired and ran just like it should do, I was expecting it to stop but 40 seconds later it was still running, then it stopped:blushing:

So changed the oil which is what I was going to do anyway, then emptied the fuel all 5L of it. Not a nice smell and just like Gardenkit says it stays with you, horrid stuff.

Put half a gallon of fresh fuel in, tap on, choke on, first pull and away she purred for an hour:thumbup:

Now what can I do with this stinking petrol thats in a bucket with a lid on, in the garden I must add.... safe:lol:

At the same time I was sorting I came across a 1L bottle of Putoline 5 Mix, a synthetic two stroke competition oil. Must be about 15 years old and very very thick, in fact its very close to red jelly:sneaky2:

I know you dont keep oil that long but no mineral oil I have ever seen has gone like this so could it be two stroke oil has a shelf life too, not only petrol :001_tt2:

This should give you something to think about over the weekend, answers on a postcard please

You've just reminded me of my generator sitting at the back of the shed needing some attention!! Now I'll have to get on with that job! I'll bet it's full of mank petrol too, as it hasn't been fired up for a couple of years. Seemed like a good idea a few years back to have a genny in case of power cuts, or to work out in the dark, but in reality...why? Power outages are now rare, and work outside...in the dark...well I just don't. :001_smile:

Bonfire. There is nothing wrong with using petrol to start a bonfire. It's waste oil that cannot be burnt and must be disposed of in an acceptable recycling centre.

Ay steady some of us make a good living out of other peoples fear of the dark. You can buy an additive that extends the life of fuel in the tank. With Labour policy on wind turbines you may all need those gennys soon

Seriously though, there can be no argument that Aspen 4 is absolutely the right fuel to put in these generators. You can leave it for years and know it will be completely serviceable.

Maybe not in a 13hp though.
