Hi there, I had a little accident yesterday and have fractured my scaphoid, also got some ligament damage. Has anyone had a similar injury? Does it affect your climbing? Just wanted to know how long I would be looking at recovering from this.

Cheers!

I feel your pain! Did my left one about 16 years ago when I as 14 or so. For such a small bone I've not known pain like it.

I've never had any problems following on from it so hopefully you should be fine. Pot came off after 6 weeks and I was back on Bike not long after.

How did you do it? I crashed my CR :blushing:

hi there, you will need a cast on for around 6 weeks, then physio exersizes to get the movement and strength back. Get it sorted ASAP, you dont want to end up like me with it in 2 pieces for the rest of your life, as it becomes too late very quickly!

Although i have been climbing on mine for 13 years, it gives more pain to deal with as the years go by (23 year old break now, doc said it was just sprained!) hope it heals well chap..

Do you mean scapula? Thats in your back! I would go & get some proper information before you climb again!!

I was convinced he meant Scaphoid (not sure of spelling) You have 2 . one in each wrist ?

Thanks for all the response bit of reassurance as people say they can be awkward to heal etc, I have had it pinned, I also dislocated my wrist but that's back in now :)

Ha yes I also did it in a bike had a motocross accident got spat off mid air, think bike has come off worse though haha

They have said 6 weeks which I kind of expected, although I want it to be right, just happy to know that it won't effect my climbing in the future

Cheers!

i had one pinned which wouldn't heal -was in pot for 3 months and took about 6 to get back to full fitness.i still don't have full confidence in it now really -reckon the hospital made an arse of it! hope yours is much more straightforward.
