best used as a descender instead of a shunt or similar. can be coupled with a hand jammer for ascent or used in pulley systems to lock. also good in lowering systems and haul lines. I havent seen them used in arb much tho its a more irata piece of kit but they use it more as a spare for rope transfers. also suffers from a low(ish) swl. perfect for belaying climbers tho.

hope this helps jc

It does the same job as a Grillon and a Cinch and sits between them in terms of size and price.

I just bought a Cinch as its smaller and cheaper than the other two.

I.e as on a lanyard, does that mean it can be used as a load bearing secondary or desend out a tree on one on srt or ddrt?

That is helpful, its something that im not 100% sure on is when rock climbing/ irata kit is used in the arb industry.

I use mine as a hauling capture device ie saws and other equipment... Don't use it often and have never used it for anything else, to bulky for the lanyard, plus I was given it by another climber and don't know it's history so would never use it for belay or descending on....

Good bit of gear but not sufficiently rated for lowering, for this look at the CMC MPD. Much better for small diameter rope lowering control, although expensive (fig 8 is less painfull to buy!).

Grigri is good for your side strops, belay and as a component of an SRT ascent system.

....IMO........
